Four - way coordination is essential for drumset and should be introduced early in a student's learning journey. Remember, the drumset requires hands and feet!

Alternating 16th note single strokes between a hand and a foot - two minutes each:

Start slow and even. Practice with a metronome.

Right Hand- Right Foot

Right Hand - Left Foot

Left Hand -Right Foot

Left Hand - Left Foot

Hands and feet together ( two minutes)

After you get comfortable with the exercise, practice it while humming a song. As you develop your skills, you will be able to connect coordination with melody, allowing you to apply it to real-time situations.

It is essential to remember that the drumset requires coordination between both hands and feet, emphasizing the importance of coordination across all limbs.

Playing music is enough for a lifetime, but a lifetime is not enough for playing music. JG

For any doubters out there, this came from a real-world lesson that started off with the request, 'Can we analyze the bass drumming in Zeppelin's 'When the Levee Breaks'? I'm looking forward to getting better with my hand-foot coordination!
