All melodic instruments have scales. Although the pitches on our drums tend to be indefinite, we should still practice an organized set of patterns so our fills are more interesting and creative. Here I demonstrate one beat for each drum, starting with 16th notes, quintuplets, sextuplets, and going through 12-note groupings. There will be one beat for each drum.
After you practice this you can get creative and play different patterns on different drums.
Gary Chaffee's Rhythm and Meter Patterns book is great to start the creative process.
